6 Reasons Why Working Out at Home is Better Than the Gym

Working out at home has several advantages over working out at the gym. You can create an effective gym set up in your home with a small or modest budget.

  1. Saves time
  2. Saves money
  3. Individualized workout space
  4. Increased performance
  5. Increased focus
  6. Your Kitchen is Steps Away

1. Saves time

For some people, getting dressed and leaving the house is a good enough reason to skip the gym and stay home. However, when you work out at home, you have one less excuse not to work out. In fact, depending on the workout you do, you don’t even have to get dressed.

In all seriousness, decreasing the amount of work it takes even to start, makes it that much easier to get started.

Also, you can avoid dealing with traffic and can work out whenever you want. A 24/7 gym just for you!

2. Saves money

Memberships can vary from $10 a month (plus taxes and annual costs) to over $500. On top of that, many memberships carry an annual membership fee or dues that you will pay FOREVER (as long as you keep your membership of course). When you work out at home, you can work out for free or build out an effective home gym for a few hundred dollars.

3. Individualized Workout Space

Not only do you not have to be around strangers, but you also don’t have to share your workout equipment with them. You can set up your workout space with all the equipment you’ll need for your workout. None of the items you plan to use will be taken and you can use them for as long as you want. No need for gym etiquette here!

You can listen to the music you want…out loud! When your favorite part of a song comes on where you can’t help but sing or dance to it, you CAN! And if you mess up, nobody to see it but you.

Also, with COVID and/or other infectious diseases in mind, not having to share things mean less chance of spreading germs.

4. Increased Performance

Proper form is key to maximizing performance. How do you know if you are using proper form? You either have a trainer or workout partner with you OR you use a mirror. At the gym, there are often people and equipment in the way of the mirrors. So unless you have a workout partner or trainer at the gym, it’s possible that you’re not using the best form. This could mean that you’re not getting the most out of your workout and could even be risking injury.

Using a mirror can also help you visualize the muscle groups you are working with. This can be a great ego boost and motivator.

5. Increased Focus

When you are home working out, the focus can be just working out. Not your gym attire or what the other gym patrons might be thinking of you. You can just focus on the task at hand. Again, you can just pay attention to maintaining proper form. Or maybe you prefer kickboxing or dance workouts. You can dance like no one is watching and burn tons of calories doing it.

6. Recovery and Rest are Steps Away

A good workout routine needs nutrition and water to recover. You can have a healthy meal or shake you love within reach. Since bodies are built in the kitchen, having one nearby is a great convenience.

When you work so hard that you just want to sprawl out on the floor with exhaustion, you can ACTUALLY do that at home. I mean technically you can do that at the gym but people will look at you and it’s nasty.

Can you lose weight working out at home?

Absolutely. Of course, the majority of the work of losing weight is in your diet. However, working out helps to build muscle and this muscle helps to burn more fat. Seeing your body change before you is quite amazing and working out at home can get you that feeling.

Can you get the same results working out at home?

Yes but it depends on your goals. For the majority of people, working out at home is enough. You can get lean and build muscle with a home gym. It doesn’t take a lot of money and space to have the basics. You can learn more by reading THIS blog post.
